Deadline to register our swimmers is 6/15 so I need to ask everyone that is planning to swim to declare which events and which strokes you want to compete in. Something like: Davis Herndon 9-10 Boys 50yd Freestyle, 100IM, Free Relay, Medley Relay.
Each event is $7 and each relay is $4. If we don't have 4 swimmers in your age group to create a relay team, we'll figure out how to refund your $4 (or $8 if you want to swim 2 relays). I've asked for an event listing but so far have not received that. Please reply to this email with the events you want to register for.

Birth Certificates are due along with your registration. With the 6/15 deadline to Gainesville, we need to get all of our registrations together by 6/12 to see if we need to have a "swim off" on 6/13. Please block 6p-8p on your calendar for such a swim-off. I don't have a place for such a swim off so if anyone has a pool they can offer on that Sunday afternoon/evening, please let me know. We may not need it but I suspect will have a few cases where the number of swimmers who want to swim exceeds our limit of 3 per event.

Please make a check payable to Sandy Springs Swim Association and have a Birth Certificate copy that you can do without - no original is needed for this event. The copy will stay on file and then be destroyed after the Carrollton Meet.

SSSA teams

A major issue has come up with GRPA that affects Sandy Springs this year. The Sandy Springs Park rep failed to get our swimmer numbers turned in to GRPA per some deadline they have and that will require our swimmers to take a different path to get to Carrollton this year. It's not nearly as bad as Decal experienced last year but it will require us to change our plans and move some things around for those swimmers who were planning on going to Carrollton.

Rather than host a Sandy Springs City Meet on 7/1 as planned, that meet is now being replaced with the GRPA District 7 Swim Meet in Gainesville on 7/10. Our planned 7/1 meet will not qualify swimmers to compete in Carrollton so we're having to send our swimmers to Gainesville to qualify. There will be a significantly higher number of kids at Gainesville trying to qualify so the likelihood of swimmers who are not in the top of their stroke events actually making the team is quite small. We were able to take some of those swimmers the last couple of years because we had a small qualifying base - that's gone this year as the base will be large and I suspect pretty good.

I know a number of families had planned their summer vacations around the 7/1 meet and they will be extremely disappointed. Many of them will not be in town to go to Gainesville so they will be shut out this summer. I've already spoken to 2 of those families and know how disappointed their swimmers are - it's a mess but one we'll work through this year and get back on track for 2011.

Please share this information with your SSSA team as soon as you can so the families who were planning to swim on 7/1 know that it's been canceled. Additionally, the timeframes to respond with registration information is about to get real short as the Gainesville meet is almost here. Families planning to swim will need to get their Birth Certificates ready this week.

We will form a Sandy Springs team from the kids who do qualify at Gainesville. We will practice at Chastain as planned but rather than having 75+ kids on the Sandy Springs team, we're likely going to have 25 or fewer - just depends on how they swim in Gainesville and who shows up to swim against them.

Feel free to call me with any questions.
